The Gaodao Traverse is a classic intermediate mountain route surrounded by cedar forests, located in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County. It is a popular intermediate mountain trail connecting Gaotai Mountain, Xiaodaotian Mountain, Zhongdaotian Mountain, and Dadaotian Mountain. The entire route's elevation ranges from 1,061 to 1,831 meters, with a one-way distance of approximately 4.5 kilometers, and takes about 6 to 7 hours round trip. It is highly favored by hiking enthusiasts. The trailhead starts at the Nalou Tribe, with the first trailhead being the most commonly used. Although it begins with a challenging continuous steep ascent, the trail is lined with towering, straight cedar trees, surrounded by phytoncides, adding a therapeutic touch to the strenuous climb. In just over an hour, you can reach the first peak, Gaotai Mountain. The triangulation station at the summit features a flat platform, making it an excellent resting spot. Continuing for about two more hours, you will arrive at the Gaodao Observation Deck. It offers expansive views, where you can admire the magnificent scenery of the Jianshi Tribe and the Nalou mountains in the distance. This is one of the highlights of the route. Whether you seek a physical challenge or yearn for the tranquility of the mountains, the Gaodao Traverse is a classic choice not to be missed.
