Matai means 'misty village' in the Atayal language. The trail is gentle and pleasant to hike, boasting abundant wildlife and plant life along the way. As you continue, you'll reach a single-cable suspension bridge, also known as the Lover's Bridge. Its gentle sway as you cross allows couples to walk hand in hand. Afterward, the path turns into a natural dirt trail, allowing you to experience the most authentic charm of an ancient path. Hiking beginners are recommended to visit the Matai Ancient Trail. Beside the trail, you'll hear the gurgling sound of the stream and see the famous century-old Bischofia tree. Rest platforms are also set up along the way. When you get tired, stop and admire the lush green forest, breathe in the phytoncides, and let your body and mind feel completely relaxed.
