Visitor Essentials
The Nanping Ancient Trail is a 3.7-kilometer circular route. Its entrance is located above Neiwan Ah San Ge Restaurant. You can choose to turn back at the pavilion in Lover's Valley, or take the left fork to Matai Ancient Trail, continue to Yixing Bridge, and then follow County Road 120 back to the starting point to complete the full loop. The trail boasts rich and diverse forest scenery. From the highest point of the wooden boardwalk, you can enjoy excellent views overlooking Neiwan Old Street. Furthermore, thanks to the Hengshan Township Office's dedicated efforts in restoration and protection, the serene environment, free from light pollution, is highly suitable for fireflies. Within the mountainous area, you can spot glowing dark-winged fireflies and hear the chirping of insects. The peak time for firefly appearances each day is from 7 PM to 8 PM. They prefer warm and humid weather, making it easier to see them fluttering about on nights after rain.
