After a century, the turmoil of past wars has receded into the mountains, but the majestic ancient fort still stands, quietly beautiful in its unique form. The Lidongshan Ancient Fort, situated at an altitude of 1,914 meters, is a battlefield relic from the Anti-Japanese War period. Built from red bricks and cement, only its weathered gate, four walls, and firing ports remain after years of erosion. Spotting the Baroque-style Lidongshan Ancient Fort signifies you've reached the summit! The fort, built in 1906, was constructed during the Japanese colonial period to suppress the local Atayal people. What was once a military base bustling with activity is now reduced to mere remnants of walls. In 2003, the county government named it TAPUNG Ancient Fort (in the Atayal language) and designated it a county-level historic site, making it the highest historical monument in Northern Taiwan. Visitors are encouraged to cherish this site while enjoying the views and taking photos.
