Zhudong Train Station

The government constructed the Zhudong-Neiwan Branch Line railway because the Zhudong hinterland was rich in agricultural, forestry, and mineral resources, leading to the successive establishment of large-scale factories (such as cement and glass). This was also to facilitate the development of mountain agricultural, forestry, and mineral resources for industrial growth. The Zhudong-Neiwan Line was the first railway entirely completed by Taiwanese after the Japanese departure. The Hsinchu to Zhudong section opened in the 36th year of the Republic (1947), and the Zhudong to Neiwan section was completed in the 40th year of the Republic (1951), making the entire line operational. With the shift in economic structure, by the 1980s, due to depleted mineral resources and timber, coupled with the rapid development of road transport, Zhudong Station gradually declined. It transformed from its former bustling prosperity to its current desolate state. Currently, on weekdays, it primarily serves commuter transport for areas along the line. On weekends and holidays, it becomes a popular tourist transport line due to the Neiwan recreational area. Zhudong Station was built during the post-war transition of power. Based on its architectural style, it is presumed that after the handover, it was constructed by Taiwanese who modified design drawings from the Japanese Imperial Era's Railway Department. Therefore, its historical and commemorative significance is extraordinary.
