Visitor Essentials
The Old Hukou Catholic Church was established in 1959 by Italian Father Manshike. The main structure is a reinforced concrete building, elevated on a small hill. Its facade features vertical dividing lines that emphasize the church's sacred and lofty nature. Beneath the main entrance platform, between the two staircases, a niche-like space is formed, where a statue of the Virgin Mary is cleverly placed, serving as the church's focal point. As the old street declined, the Catholic Church also fell into disuse for a period. After concerted efforts from various parties, the church agreed to change the purpose of the Old Hukou Catholic Church, renovating and repurposing it. In addition to the main building, the priest's dormitory was also converted into a community center. The Old Hukou Catholic Church will also be further integrated with the Old Hukou area and its old street.
