Jin Guang Cheng Cultural Center

The Jin Guang Cheng Cultural Center is located in Guanxi Township, Hsinchu County, preserving the local history of reclamation and cultural development. The "Jin Guang Cheng" reclamation company was established in the 13th year of Guangxu (1887). Local Guanxi pioneers, led by Cai Hualiang as the head pioneer, along with Zhou Yuanbao, Zhang Xiuchin, Xu Alian, and others, responded to the Qing government's "opening mountains and pacifying indigenous people" policy, initiating the reclamation of the upstream area of Siliao Stream. They jointly established the "Jin Guang Cheng Reclamation Company" and divided the reclamation organization into four sections: "Yuan, Heng, Li, Zhen." Land was distributed by lot, and they engaged in logging and camphor production, which led to the formation of today's place names such as Siliao, Qiliao, Baliao, and Shiliao. In addition to the camphor industry, coal mining also developed in the Guanxi area at that time. As the number of miners increased, the government established Renhe Elementary School to provide education for local residents and promote universal education. However, with changes in the rural economy and population outflow, the formerly prosperous "Renhe Village" was abolished in the 67th year of the Republic (1978) and merged with Minghu Village (now the Nanhu area) to form "Dongshan Village." Renhe Elementary School was also officially closed in the 76th year of the Republic (1987) due to a decrease in student enrollment. To preserve local historical culture and commemorate the Jin Guang Cheng Reclamation Company and the efforts of early pioneers, the Guanxi Township Office submitted a "Local Cultural Center Project" to the Council for Cultural Affairs in the 92nd year of the Republic (2003). The former site of Renhe Elementary School was revitalized and converted into today's Jin Guang Cheng Cultural Center. The center features historical, cultural, and ecological static exhibitions, and regularly hosts art exhibitions and small cultural and artistic events, becoming an important base for cultural preservation and promotion in the Guanxi area.
