Visitor Essentials

Baiziku, located within the Zhubei coastal area and Shuiyue Leisure Agriculture Zone, is the largest mullet farming area in Northern Taiwan, producing approximately 100,000 mullets annually, with a total annual output value that is not to be underestimated. In addition to the economic value brought by the mullets themselves, some local aquaculture operators here are also developing towards leisure fisheries, such as Fule Leisure Fishing Village. Within the leisure fishing village, you can see lush plants and flourishing flowers surrounding the aquaculture ponds, as well as vast flat lawns for recreation, creating a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Visitors to Fule Leisure Fishing Village can also book fish feeding sessions with the park staff, watching the fish rush to the surface to compete for food, and experience a small sense of accomplishment from farming mullets. During the annual Zhubei Mullet Festival in November, Fule Leisure Fishing Village also offers visitors the opportunity to book seasonal limited tours, such as experiencing net fishing for mullets, gutting fish, extracting mullet roe, and sun-drying bottarga (mullet roe). Although catching mullets, extracting roe, and sun-drying it are limited to November, under the planning of Supervisor Guo, visitors to Fule Leisure Fishing Village can enjoy experiential tours throughout the year. For example, the fun and delicious Mullet Ball DIY. Multicolored fish paste, prepared with ingredients like red yeast rice and turmeric, is provided. Visitors then use a spoon to shape the fish paste into balls and drop them into a boiling pot, creating a fresh, sweet, and colorful pot of mullet ball soup right on the spot. Another non-seasonal experience is grilled bottarga. The bottarga is soaked in pre-prepared sorghum liquor for about 2 to 3 minutes, then peeled and grilled. Soon, the seared bottarga will emit its unique rich aroma, stimulating the appetite and allowing guests to enjoy the pleasure of fresh grilling and tasting. In addition to creative mullet cuisine, Fule Leisure Fishing Village has also developed a series of specialty products, including mullet balls, 'one-night-dried' mullet, handmade mullet sausages, and even the chewy Mullet Snowflake Q-Cake, perfect as a snack, which is not only elastic and tasty but also lets you savor the aroma of mullet. The best time to visit Baiziku and Fule Leisure Fishing Village is in late autumn. Baiziku is not only the northernmost mullet farming area in Taiwan but also the first to enter the mullet season. Starting in November, mullets are caught, gutted for roe, and bottarga is sun-dried. The magnificent sight of golden bottarga laid out in rows is a classic scene of the fishing village. Besides the occasional Mullet Festival promotional events, Fule Leisure Fishing Village also hosts a series of in-depth agri-food experiences during the mullet season, such as observing mullets being brought ashore, gutting fish to extract roe, cleaning to remove blood vessels, and curing and sun-drying. Take advantage of the cool autumn weather to visit this fishing village, eat and learn, and return home with a full harvest.
