Visitor Essentials

Leitou Mountain Ridge, old tea plantation trails, and scenic views at the urban-rural boundary. The Wenshan Trail, situated at the junction of Xinpu Township, Zhubei City, and Qionglin Township in Hsinchu County, was formerly a small path used by farmers to pick tea in the mountains. Today, it has been transformed into an accessible trail that combines unique geographical features with historical memories. The trail is named after Leitou Mountain, which it ascends, as its shape resembles an ancient farming tool called a 'plow head' (犁頭). It also has other names such as 'Dragon's Broken Jaw' (斷龍頷) and 'Mountain Severer' (斬山), alluding to its steep and peculiar terrain. The entire Wenshan Trail is lush and verdant with dense tree cover, making it cool and comfortable even during summer walks. The ridge section offers expansive views, allowing one to see the Zhubei Plain, Liujia HSR Station, and the elevated railway winding along the mountainside. One can also gaze upon the majestic, continuous mountain ranges of Jianshi and Wufeng in the distance. This place is not only an excellent route for hikers to appreciate natural beauty but also the best practical educational resource for understanding Hsinchu's topographical changes. Along the trail, old tea trees can still be seen remaining in the forest, bearing witness to a past agricultural era when tea production thrived. Furthermore, some sections of the trail, formerly known as the famous 'Moon Peach Hollow Ancient Trail' (月桃窩古道), were once a vital thoroughfare for merchants and travelers. With the decline of agriculture, it gradually became quiet, transforming into today's serene and historically rich mountain trail. The Wenshan Trail is low in difficulty with good path conditions, making it suitable for families with children. It is an excellent hiking choice that combines natural healing, geographical education, and local history. Whether gazing from the summit or strolling through the forest, one can experience the unique charm brought by the tranquility of the mountains and forests, regardless of sunny or rainy weather. It is worth mentioning that the Wenshan Trail is also one of the designated mission trails for the '2025 Hsinchu Forest Exploration - Pi Pi Lion Adventure Team'! Follow in Pi Pi Lion's footsteps and climb Leitou Mountain, a place with unique terrain and rich stories, to embark on your own Hsinchu County adventure!
