Xinpu Guanghe Temple

Xinpu Guanghe Temple, located in Xinpu Township, Hsinchu County, is locally known as 'Wangye Temple.' However, it does not enshrine Wangye deities like the Five Princes (Wufu Qiansui) but primarily worships the Three Mountain Kings (Sanshan Guowang), as Hakka people refer to the Three Mountain Kings as 'Wangye.' Since the Three Mountain Kings represent a unique belief of the Hakka people, Hakka settlers brought this faith to Taiwan after migrating. As a result, Guanghe Temple serves as a spiritual center for Hakka people in the Xinpu area and is one of the most renowned temples in the region. The most distinctive feature of Guanghe Temple is its 'Duichang Zuo' (opposing craftsmanship) architectural style, similar to Wanhui Temple in Wandan Township, Pingtung County. This means that with the central axis as the boundary, the wooden carvings on the left and right sides were executed by two different groups of master craftsmen. Consequently, the hanging baskets (diaotong), bracket arms (quetie), and lion bases (shizuo) on the left and right sides are distinct, indicating they were created by different masters.
