Visitor Essentials

The Medicine Buddha Zen Temple primarily enshrines Namo Eastern Medicine Master Vaidurya Light Buddha. The second floor houses the Mahavira Hall, dedicated to the Three Jewels Buddhas, offering devotees opportunities to draw oracle lots, light lamps, and worship the Buddha. In a past life, when practicing the Bodhisattva path, the Medicine Buddha made twelve great vows, pledging to relieve beings of suffering from illness, avert disasters, extend life, and bestow blessings. After Buddhism was introduced to East Asia, it became widely prevalent there, with its main scripture being the Sutra of the Merits and Virtues of the Vows of the Medicine Master Vaidurya Light Tathagata. Inside the temple, Namo Eastern Medicine Master Vaidurya Light Tathagata is enshrined, flanked by Suryaprabha Bodhisattva and Candraprabha Bodhisattva. Also present are the Three Jewels Buddhas, the Four Heavenly Kings as protectors, and sixty natal Bodhisattvas. It is one of the few temples in Taiwan primarily dedicated to the Medicine Buddha. Each year, on the auspicious occasion of the Medicine Master Vaidurya Light Buddha's birthday (the 29th day of the ninth lunar month), devotees are invited to come and offer congratulations and praises.
