Qingquan Catholic Church

Tranquil breezes echo the solemnity of the church. Cross the suspension bridge and slowly ascend the stone steps, and Qingquan Catholic Church stands on the mountainside, overlooking the Wufeng area as if embracing it. This unique church serves as the artistic, spiritual, and cultural heart of the village. In 1976, the young Father Barry Martinson arrived in Qingquan. Father Martinson built the church with love and beauty. Inside, vibrant stained-glass windows, ubiquitous murals, and wood carvings, and even the large mosaic wall on the slope by the outdoor basketball court—all these creations are from the Father's hand, cleverly blending Bible stories with indigenous legends. Father Martinson poured his colorful youth into Qingquan, infusing this previously quiet and rather secluded area with artistic fervor and the profound impact of life.
