Beipu Jingang Temple

Jingang Temple is located at the foot of the mountain in Nanpu Community. It was built in the 11th year of the Republic of China (1922) and collapsed during the 921 earthquake, after which it was rebuilt. The founding abbot, Master Miaozhan, was a legendary figure. Master Miaozhan, whose courtesy name was Xianyun and pseudonym was Wohxu, was a native of Nanpu Village, Beipu Township, Hsinchu County. His lay name was Zhang Huannian. In his youth, he studied under Zhang Caixiang, a renowned master of zither, poetry, calligraphy, and painting, and also specialized in sculpture and architecture. To explore Buddhist principles, he traveled far to China, becoming a disciple of Venerable Liangda at Guo Temple in Xinghua, Fujian. He then secluded himself at Xuefeng for three years, meticulously studying Buddhist doctrines. For the subsequent five years, he traveled extensively to famous mountains and ancient temples across China, fully grasping the essence of Buddhism and becoming a grand master of his generation.
