Fuxing Longsheng Temple

Fuxing Longsheng Temple, located in Fuxing Village, Emei Township, primarily worships Emperor Guan and is a long-standing and thriving center of faith in the area. The temple's establishment dates back to the Qing Dynasty, specifically to the Daoguang era (around 1840 AD). It is said that during that time, a settler named Gao Qingsheng brought a spiritual talisman of Lord Guan from Guan Sheng Temple on Yuquan Mountain in mainland China and enshrined it in a simple shelter, seeking blessings for successful land reclamation. Later legends also recount that Emperor Guan manifested his divine power to drive away indigenous people who launched night attacks, protecting the villagers' safety. Consequently, he was deeply revered by the villagers, who then built a temple in his honor. Longsheng Temple has undergone numerous repairs and reconstructions. The great earthquake in Showa 10 (1935) severely damaged the temple structure, and it was subsequently repaired in Republic of China year 36 (1947). In Republic of China year 49 (1960), believing the temple's location was too low, devotees added a rear hall and east-west corridors, and re-sculpted the golden statue in the main hall. In Republic of China year 86 (1997), due to the widening of Provincial Highway 3 and the temple's aging structure, another reconstruction project began. It was completed with the 'entrance of fire' (consecration ceremony) in Republic of China year 88 (1999). Although the original architecture is no longer visible, Longsheng Temple still preserves some ancient artifacts. These relics are now displayed in the temple's front plaza and the nearby Fuxing Old Tea Factory, showcasing the beauty of craftsmanship from that era and offering travelers who appreciate history and culture a journey through time.
