Ponds are prominent natural landscapes in Fugang. Ponds and irrigation canals are unique topographical features of the Taoyuan area. Historically, they were developed to store water for agricultural irrigation. Besides their agricultural function, the fish and shrimp in the ponds provided abundant food sources, making them an excellent environment for attracting birds to feed and inhabit. Agriculture, ponds, and natural ecosystems developed a close symbiotic relationship. In recent years, however, due to the decline of agriculture, abandoned farmland, and land development, the number of ponds has sharply decreased. Habitat destruction has also led to a reduction in bird populations, and the pastoral beauty once cherished in the collective memory of residents has gradually disappeared from sight.
