Furen Temple

Located at the end of Heping Old Street, this temple has stood for a century, adding a solemn atmosphere to the bustling commercial street. Furen Temple, known by locals as 'the Big Temple,' was built in the 18th year of Jiaqing (1813). At that time, Zhangzhou immigrants, seeking to avoid the inconvenience of crossing the Dakukankan Stream to Puding to worship King Kaizhang during festive seasons, collectively raised funds for its construction. Key figures included Li Bingsheng (father of Li Tengfang), Lü Fandiao, and Lin Benyuan. Today, Furen Temple is not only a significant center for Zhangzhou faith in Daxi but also uniquely worships local deities of Hakka, Chaozhou, and Quanzhou origins. During the Japanese invasion of Taiwan, Furen Temple established an 'Anmin Bureau' as a local resistance point against the Japanese. Later, during the Japanese colonial period, it served as a garrison hospital. After two subsequent reconstructions, it is now one of the largest temples in Daxi.
