In the 1950s, military personnel and civilians from Yunnan and Burma who retreated to Taiwan put down roots in the Longgang area. To make a living, many of these Yunnan-Burma immigrants began selling dishes from their homeland, such as sausages and cured meats, pickled vegetables, Yunnan rice noodles (Migan), Yunnan pea jelly (Wan Dou Fen), shredded green papaya salad, and Yunnan thinly sliced pork (Da Bo Pian). These flavors flourished after crossing the ocean and became the most distinctive culinary specialties in the area.
