With over 200 years of history, Xiaoli Great Pond is not only Taoyuan's first irrigation pond but also the largest in Bade District. During the Qianlong era, the Pingpu indigenous people named this area after their community, 'Xiaoli She.' Together with the Han people, they excavated Xiaoli Great Pond at the southernmost tip of Bade, utilizing the natural terrain. It collected stream water and spring water, becoming the source for the Xiaoli Great Canal (the predecessor of Shimen Great Canal). These abundant irrigation resources led to a prosperous landscape described as 'endless Xiaoli fields and inexhaustible Xiaoli rice.' Walking along the lakeside trail, as you admire the lush green rice waves swaying in the wind, you can contemplate the hardships faced by the early settlers who toiled to cultivate the land, which naturally evokes a sense of gratitude.
