Visitor Essentials
The Gyo-sei Road Ancient Trail is one of the three major ancient trails in the Daxi Hexi area (the other two being Zhaiming Temple Ancient Trail and Panlongqi Ancient Trail). The term 'Gyo-sei' (御成) itself hints at a past visit by royalty. This ancient trail, constructed in 1788, originally served as a path for local residents to travel to Hsinchu and Longtan for trade. In 1923, during the Crown Prince's (Higashinomiya) visit to Taiwan, local gentry raised funds to rebuild it into the stone slab road seen today. At the entrance of the ancient trail, located by the back gate of National Defense University's Zhongzheng Ridge, a Gyo-sei Road Memorial Stele was erected, listing the names of the donors.
