Visitor Essentials
Long before the construction of the Baichi Tunnel, most routes from Daxi to mountainous areas of Fuxing, such as Jiaobanshan and Baling, went through the Baichi Trail (formerly known as the Shikueikeng Ancient Trail), which served as a major transportation artery from the Qing Dynasty to the Japanese colonial period. In 1944 (Minguo Year 33), with the opening of the Baichi Tunnel's light railway, the Baichi Shaded Trail ceased to be a major transportation hub. From 1949 (Minguo Year 38), Cihu was designated as a military control zone, shrouding the Baichi Trail in mystery. This concealment lasted for half a century, thereby protecting the area's natural ecosystem from development and destruction.
