Longtan Shengji Pavilion

In ancient times, people, out of respect for the transmission of knowledge and the power of written characters, established 'Jingzi Pavilions' (Respecting Characters Pavilions) or 'Xizi Pavilions' (Cherishing Characters Pavilions) as furnaces for burning discarded paper with writing on it. The Hakka people have traditionally valued literary culture, and therefore often established Jingzi Pavilions in their settlements.
