Baishajia Lighthouse

Baishajia Lighthouse, located on the Guanyin Coast, was once the westernmost lighthouse on Taiwan's main island before the construction of the Guosheng Lighthouse in Tainan. It is surrounded by a circular walking trail, and visitors can also explore the nearby Guanyin Coastal Recreation Area. The lighthouse's snowy-white tower stands out brilliantly against the azure sea and sky. After its activation in 1901, it quickly became a famous scenic spot in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. Having withstood over a century of history, it was selected in 2001 by the Council for Cultural Affairs (now Ministry of Culture) as one of the 'Top 100 Historical Buildings in Taiwan.' The following year, the lighthouse building itself, its surrounding walls, and the sundial from the Japanese colonial period were designated as Taoyuan's first county-level historic site. In May 2021, it was further elevated to Taoyuan's second national-level historic site, and is currently the most completely preserved lighthouse from the early Japanese colonial period.
