Beiyue Temple is located at the foot of Wuhu Mountain in the northeast corner of Kinmen and is one of the local historic centers of worship. It is said to have been built during the Southern Song Dynasty, originally serving as a community temple protecting the people of the Shanxi region. During the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates (Wokou) harassed the coast, affecting civilian homes in Shanxi, and Beiyue Temple was also burned down. Although it was repaired multiple times afterward, by the late Qing Dynasty, it was severely damaged again by strong winds.
