Baoyue Nunnery

Baoyue Nunnery, also known as Nan'an (South Nunnery), was built during the Ming Dynasty. It was originally located next to the Xujiang Xiaowo Stone Carvings and Wentaibao Pagoda, now within the walls of Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc. Inside the nunnery, statues of Guanyin and Arhats were enshrined. In front of the nunnery was Baoyue Spring, known for its excellent water quality. In 1953 (the 42nd year of the Republic of China calendar), Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc. was established, and Baoyue Nunnery was demolished to acquire water for brewing. The liquor subsequently brewed from this water became the famous Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor.
