Deyue Tower

Built in 1931, Deyue Tower was commissioned by Huang Hui-huang, a wealthy merchant from the Shuitou settlement, who hired Chen Nan-an, a master craftsman from inland Fujian, to design and construct this towering building. As it was the tallest building in the Shuitou settlement at the time, it was named "Deyue Tower," referencing the proverb "a waterside pavilion gets the first glimpse of the moon," which implies that those in a favorable position benefit first.
