Hanying Yungeng Inscription

Located on Xiantai Mountain, south of Gugang Lake, it is one of the stone inscriptions personally written by Prince Lu of the Ming Dynasty. Regent Prince Lu, in his effort to resist the Qing and restore the Ming Dynasty, once resided on Kinmen Island for over 10 years. This stone inscription, carved between the 6th and 8th years of the Yongli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1652-1654), truly expresses his magnanimous spirit and has been designated as a county-level historic site. The Hanying Yungeng Inscription seen today consists of two pieces, one with forward script and one with inverted script. Legend has it that the original genuine stele was erected on a slope, later collapsed, causing the characters to appear inverted. Later generations then found another cliff stone of similar appearance to replicate the inscription, thus creating the Hanying Yungeng Inscription with both forward and inverted scripts.
