The Wéntái Pagoda was built in the 20th year of the Hongwu Emperor's reign (1387) during the Ming Dynasty. It is one of three stone pagodas commissioned by Emperor Taizu of Ming and built by Marquis Jiangxia, Zhou Dexing, in Kinmen. It is also the only Ming Dynasty stone pagoda in Kinmen that was not destroyed by war or damaged by artillery fire.
