Haiyin Temple, built during the Song Dynasty, boasts a history of over 800 years. Because it is situated in a saddle at the peak of Mount Taiwu, it was historically known as Taiwu Rock Temple. From a distance, the shape of Mount Taiwu closely resembles a recliner lying on his back; folk tales describe Mount Taiwu as 'the immortal lying on the ground,' making it a place endowed with spiritual energy. Haiyin Temple, built upon this sacred site, enjoys particularly strong incense and a large number of worshippers. Every year on the ninth day of the first lunar month, which marks the 'Birthday of the Jade Emperor,' Kinmen residents, young and old alike, ascend the mountain to Haiyin Temple to pay their respects. This event is a significant religious festival in Kinmen.
