Qing Dynasty Kinmen Commander-in-Chief's Office

The site of the Qing Dynasty Kinmen Commander-in-Chief's Office was originally named "Congqingxuan." Legend has it that this was where Xu Xie, a Jinshi (imperial scholar) during the Ming Dynasty (1601 AD), once studied. During the Kangxi reign, Commander-in-Chief Chen Long, considering that the old Kinmen City had endured multiple military calamities at the end of the Ming Dynasty and that Houpu had a thriving population, decided to relocate and rebuild the Commander-in-Chief's Office here. After several renovations, it reached its current scale. Until Kinmen became a county in 1915, the Commander-in-Chief's Office remained the highest administrative center. It successively housed the Kinmen County Office, Kinmen County Government, Administrative Office, Kinmen Defense Command, and other institutions. Today, it is a classic tourist attraction in Kinmen and one of its county-designated historical sites.
