Huang Wei's Tomb

Huang Wei, courtesy name Mengwei, literary name Yisou, also known as Yisuo, was a native of Wenshuitou (now Shuitou). Born in the first year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1488), he once served as a clerk in Quanzhou Prefecture. He obtained the Jinshi degree in the ninth year of Zhengde (1514) and was initially appointed as a secretary in the Ministry of Justice in Nanjing. He was renowned for his integrity, prudence, clarity, and compassion in handling judicial cases. Later, he was promoted to Prefect of Nanxiong, where he reduced corvée labor, promoted proper etiquette, prohibited prostitutes, and abolished illicit shrines. Recommended by the authorities, he was reassigned as Prefect of Songjiang, where he repeatedly achieved success in governance. Later, due to his frank memorials without reservation and his refusal to conform to the powerful officials of the time, he returned to his hometown to care for his parents and give lectures.
