Lintianshan Forestry Culture Park

Lintianshan, nestled in Fenglin, Hualien, was formerly known as Morisaka (MORISAKA, the Japanese pronunciation of '森坂', meaning 'forest slope'). Following Taiwan's retrocession, it was renamed Senrong. It stands as Taiwan's most complete and distinctive logging base, serving as a crucial stronghold and testament in the history of Taiwan's forestry development, both in scale and significance. As early as the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese discovered hot springs in the Wanli River within the forest area and subsequently diverted the water to build and operate a guesthouse. The exploration and extraction of pulp raw materials began in 1939, marking the beginning of its forestry industry. During the logging heyday of the 1960s, Lintianshan buzzed with activity, earning it the moniker 'Little Shanghai' and establishing its place as one of Taiwan's four major logging areas. Later, with the government's implementation of a logging ban, Lintianshan's loggers gradually departed, taking the area's original prosperity with them. Nevertheless, Lintianshan continues to preserve the most complete logging scenes and imagery.
