Strolling along winding forest trails amidst neat plantations of Formosan Red Pines and Two-leaved Pines, you'll occasionally encounter hikers with large backpacks. As you exchange greetings, a Swinhoe's Pheasant might quietly cross the trail behind you and disappear into the bushes, while the chirping of Flamecrests and other birds in the treetops never ceases. This is a very common scene for visitors to Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area. Compared to the renowned Jiaming Lake, Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area, located at 154k on the Southern Cross-Island Highway, at an elevation of 2,320 meters, is much more understated despite its modest size. It boasts beautiful planted forests and a network of gentle trails. Along the park's paths, you can easily hear the songs of over ten species of mountain birds, spot the strutting national treasure Swinhoe's Pheasant, and encounter mischievous Formosan Reeves's muntjacs and Formosan serows. It's a perfect little haven for enjoying the cool high-altitude air, the neat beauty of the planted forests, and its rich ecology, ideal for a relaxed half-day trip! Note: Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area is currently closed. Reopening dates will be announced separately.
