Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area

Surrounded by golden maples, a spectacular suspension bridge, and wildlife, Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area is a charming forest. Aowanda is located behind Wushe Reservoir, at an elevation between 1100 and 2600 meters. This area was originally home to Atayal and Seediq tribes. Hydropower development began here during the Japanese colonial era, and it officially became a National Forest Recreation Area in 1994. In the Atayal language, "Ao" means "to go deep" or "to enter," so Aowanda means "deep into Wushe." Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area is renowned nationwide for its vibrant autumn maples, but throughout the year, as the seasons change, the park continuously showcases nature's colorful and romantic landscapes. However, its fame for autumn leaves seems to overshadow Aowanda's year-round beauty. The charm of its four seasons is Aowanda's natural splendor: winter maples, spring cherry blossoms, summer waterfalls, and autumn moon. These subtly alternate and quietly flourish in this comfortable valley. The spectacular "Aowanda Suspension Bridge," connecting to the beautiful pine forest area, is 180 meters long and 90 meters high.
