When it comes to snow and high mountains, Hehuanshan is definitely the first choice for Taiwanese people, and this is precisely the most unique scenery of Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area. Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area is Taiwan's first national forest recreation area – it received this honor as early as 1963 due to its special scenery and high-mountain ecosystem. Here you can see vast Yushan cane grasslands, experience the crisp temperatures that are a full 18°C lower than the lowlands, easily climb three famous 'Baiyue' (hundred peaks) mountains within the park: Hehuan Main Peak, Hehuan East Peak, and Shimen Mountain, and stay at Songxue Lodge to enjoy the magnificent and vast starry sky at night. There are also many high-altitude birds unique to this area: Alpine Accentor, Vinaceous Rosefinch, Flamecrest… waiting for your visit! Snow scenery is a major feature of Hehuanshan; the pristine white snow in winter is the most captivating and dreamlike sight in subtropical Taiwan. And every May, the beautiful and moving sea of Yushan rhododendrons adorns the emerald green mountain peaks with a mosaic of red and white, as if auspicious snow has fallen again, which is breathtaking and showcases the year-round splendor of Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area.
