Visitor Essentials

With the roaring sound of waterfalls, the compact and exquisite Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is a fern paradise nestled by mountains and rivers, an excellent place in the upper reaches of the Nanshi River to enjoy peace and greenery. Approximately 50 minutes from Xindian, Neidong can be considered the most conveniently accessible national forest recreation area in the Greater Taipei area. Situated at an elevation between 230 and 1500 meters, it is traversed by the Neidong Stream, making it humid and warm – truly a fern paradise. Along just a few hundred meters of the waterfall viewing trail, you can discover nearly 65 species of ferns, including rare species like the drooping clubmoss (*Huperzia squarrosa*) and climbing fern (*Lygodium japonicum*), which are delicate epiphytes on large trees. This place was formerly known as 'Wawa Valley' (娃娃谷), rumored to be named for the abundance of frogs whose calls echo through the valley at night. You might even spot frogs in the ditches along the trails! The Neidong Waterfall is the star attraction of the recreation area. At the end of the waterfall viewing trail, its two distinct tiers offer visitors a diverse experience along with the invigorating scent of negative ions. On a hot summer day, why not escape the stuffy city and enjoy a refreshing afternoon forest bath at Neidong National Forest Recreation Area!
